Kansas State Representatives Don Hineman (R-118th) from Dighton, who serves as House Majority Leader and Larry Hibbard (R-13th) from Toronto, joined us on Thursday’s Ag Issues program. The focus was on the Governor’s State of the State address from Tuesday and the Governor’s budget proposal which was released on Wednesday. Both Hineman and Hibbard voiced their concerns as to how the legislature was going come up with the proposed $600 million in increased spending for Kansas schools. They also looked the options with regards to coming into compliance with the state Supreme Court’s ruling concerning adequate financing of Kansas schools. They also commented on other parts of the Governor’s proposed budget and also talked about whether another round of tax increases would even be on the table for this session.
